PART 4 - WELL THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY

PART 4 - WELL THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY

After leaving the patch of grass, I head out east towards the bridge that leads to Rustboro City. Before that, however, I am challenged by a trainer, Rich Boy Winston. He sends out a Zigzagoon and I send out my newly captured Dustina. Clearly at a disadvantage, I switch out Dustina and send it Poochy. Poochy defeats the opponent's only Pokemon, and I receive P1400. Money is sure useful, as I will be looking to buy a lot of Potions in Rustboro.

I battle another trainer, who had a Lotad and a Shroomish. Dustina impressively defeated the two Pokemon, using Poison Sting to deal super effective damage to the grass type Pokemon.

On the bridge, two twins challenge me to a double battle. This is my first double battle so far, but I think I can take on the two girls.

They send out a Lotad and a Seedot, while I bring out Dustina and Poochy. It was a tough battle, but we managed to win in the end.

After the battle, my Dustina lay on the ground, motionless. She must have expended a lot of energy during the fight. I run over to her side, and I whisper to her, 'Hey, we won. Hang in there, I need you. The team needs you.' At that moment, Dustina started to glow...

Dustina evolved into a Cascoon! Yes! She is going to evolve into a Dustox soon!

Wanting to see how strong Dustina has become, I challenge a nearby Fisherman to a battle.

Ok, so I couldn't really tell how strong Dustina was, simply because the Fisherman sent out three Magikarp. Hahaaa.

I finally arrive in Rustboro City. Before looking around the city, I stop by the Poke Mart to stock up, and I heal my Pokemon at the Pokemon Center. I stop by the Pokemon Trainer's School, and the teacher was kind enough to give me a Quick Claw. Also, I receive HM01 - Cut from the Cutter's House! I'm getting free stuff left and right! I love Rustboro already!

I suddenly realize that my HM slave, Hyenapooch, fainted earlier so I have to release him right away. Looks like I have to catch another HM slave later...

I'm sure there will be MUCH MORE emotional goodbyes later on.

I stop by a house in Rustboro, and I see that there is a sick child named Walda who doesn't seem to laugh. Her father asks me if I know any funny words to cheer her up. Hmmmm...

Nothing. I can't seem to think of some funny words. The father gets mad at me for entering their home and wasting his time, and he unleashes his anger at Walda instead.

Well that escalated quickly.

I leave the house IMMEDIATELY, not wanting to add fuel to the fire.

Wanting to forget about the incident, I head straight for the Rustboro Gym.

My game plan for this gym is to use Tricca and only Tricca. I hope that her grass type moves will prove effective against rock and ground type Pokemon like Geodude and Onix.

*On a side note, my personal rules regarding gyms will be: 1. I can't leave the gym after I enter, meaning that I won't be able to heal at the Pokemon Center before facing the Gym leader, and 2. NO SAVING!*

As I look at my party, I realize that I have two grass type Pokemon and a bug type. Seeing that half of my party is filled by these three, I decide that I will stop training Spots for now.

I make quick work of the three gym trainers, facing nothing but Geodudes throughout.

Time to face Roxanne, the Gym Leader.

The first Pokemon she sends out is Geodude.

Bullet Seed. Done.

Geodude next.

Bullet Seed. Done.

Finally, Nosepass.

Bullet Seed. Done. I lie.

Nosepass actually survives 5 hits from Bullet Seed, but Tricca finishes him off with two more Bullet Seeds and an Absorb.

Roxanne thanks me for a wonderful battle, and hands me the Stone Badge.

This is where I say, 'I got... the Stone Badge!' and I hold up the Stone Badge to the camera as Tricca jumps and holds that pose for a few seconds... Speaking of which, it seems like Ash actually aged in the preview of the Pokemon X and Y anime. Who knows?

Well that's it for now.

(In the anime narrator voice). As our hero emerges victorious at the Rustboro gym, Green and friends look forward to the many adventures that await them. What could they be? Stay tuned to find out...

PART 3 - TEAM AQUA

PART 3 - TEAM AQUA

Hello guys once again! Not much has happened in between this post and the last, except for the fact that I trained both my Poochy and Tricca to level 10. Also, I managed to get over the fact that there seemed to be a 99.9% chance that a Poochyena would be the first Pokemon to appear in each. Hahahaha. Relaxed now, I head back to Route 104...

The first trainer I battle is Youngster Billy. We decide to have a battle on the beach. As the waves crash against the shore, Billy sends out his Zigzagoon, and I send out Tricca. I land a critical hit with Tricca's Absorb, and the Zigzagoon faints. He then sends out a Seedot, so I switch to Poochy. Seedot uses nothing but Harden, so I take advantage and I finish off Youngster Joey with Poochy's Tackle.

Next trainer I battle claims to have "fished up a tough-looking Pokemon". He sends out a Magikarp. Enough said.

I go inside Mr. Briney's cottage, but he is nowhere to be found. I wonder where he went?

I defeat one last trainer (who actually used a Full Restore!) before heading into Petalburg Woods. Time for the first Pokemon encounter...

A wild Shroomish appeared! Meh, it could be worse. I mean, it could have been another Poochyena! I catch the Shroomish and nickname him 'Spots', due to the number of green spots located on its body (or head, I can't really tell). Although I really wanted a Wurmple because I already had a grass type in Tricca, I will gladly welcome Spots to the team. At least, I won't have much trouble when it comes to the first Gym battle.

The first trainer I face in Petalburg Woods has four Pokemon. He first sends out a Wurmple. Spots makes quick work of the level 3 Pokemon. The bug trainer then sends out another Wurmple. Poochy finishes that one off. Then he sends out ANOTHER Wurmple. Same result. Finally, he sends out his last Pokemon, which is obviously a Wurmple. Is he rubbing it in my face that I don't have a Wurmple and he has four? Never mind. I land a critical hit to finish the battle.

I suddenly have a random thought, thinking to myself, Which of my Pokemon will die first? I shrug it off, not wanting to think about the future right now.

I see a man who seems to be looking for something. He asks me if I have seen any Shroomish around. I was about to show him Spots when some guy dressed in blue attacks us! He tries to take some papers (top secret, I guess) from the man, who then hides behind my back. Not having much of a choice, I battle the Team Aqua Grunt.

He sends out his only Pokemon, a Poochyena, and I send out Spots. After a back and forth battle, I finally win with Spots' Absorb. The Grunt flees, saying something about looking for something in Rustboro. Why in Hoenn would he give out information like that? He DOES NOT know how to be good at being bad.

Thanking me, the unidentified man gives me one great ball. Great. After that strange turn of events, I proceed deeper into the woods.

I battle one last trainer, a bug trainer in fact. This is where I realize something — all of my Pokemon have a weakness against Bug types. I struggle to defeat two level 6 Nincadas, and I quickly run to the clearing, hoping not to encounter anymore trainers or wild Bug Pokemon.

Upon exiting Petalburg Woods, a random guy gives me TM09 - Bullet Seed. How nice of him:) I use it on Tricca replacing Pound (since she already knew Quick Attack).

I enter the nearby flower shop. Inside the flower shop, I receive a Wailmer Pail to help water berries that I plant in the soil. I wonder if I can use the pail to douse a burned Pokemon?

I exit the shop, and seeing a path behind it, I stumble upon a patch of grass! Time for my first encounter on this side of Route 104! What will it be?

Yes! A wild Wurmple appeared! Not wanting to kill it, I send out my level 3 Hyenapooch. My Hyenapooch dies in the process of weakening the Wurmple, but I'm not mad. Hahaaa.

Here's the situation, the Wurmple's health is just a bit below halfway; however, I know that my powerful Pokemon can land a critical hit and kill it. I decide to throw a Poke Ball, and...

I nickname my 'Dustina' (female for Dusty in my book lol), hoping it will evolve into a Dustox. But if it doesn't, then...awkward.

Anyway, that's it for this post. Stay tuned for the next one, where I will hopefully challenge the Rustboro Gym!

PART 2 - POOCHYENAS EVERYWHERE

PART 2 - POOCHYENAS EVERYWHERE

In between the last post and this one, I did a bit of training with Poochy and Tricca on Route 101. After all, I don't want any of my Pokemon to die in just the second blog post! Also, I realized that my dear Poochy has the abilitiy 'Run Away', so I can flee from any battle. Right now, Poochy is level 5 while my Tricca is level 8.

I heal up in the Pokemon Center in Oldale Town before proceeding to Route 103 to hopefully catch my third Pokemon.

I step into the tall grass and...

A wild Poochyena appeared! Wow, just what I needed. You know what? I'm going to catch it anyway. Maybe I can use it him as an HM slave, or sacrifice him in battle. Ok, maybe not the second one. After catching him successfully, I nickname my second Poochyena, Hyenapooch.

I'll get better at the nicknames.

I rest up again in Oldale Town before heading out west.

After buying supplies from the Poke Mart, I finally take a step on Route 102. As usual, I step into the patch of grass to encounter my first Pokemon. Hope it isn't another Poochyena. Are there Poochyenas on Route 102? Let's find out...

JUST MY LUCK! Another friggin Poochyena appears! Is that the only Pokemon that appears in the whole Hoenn region? UUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

Good luck trying to find something other than a Poochyena.
I head back to Oldale after rage-killing a Poochyena and a Zigzagoon. Why couldn't the Zigzagoon appear first. WHY?

Back to Route 102...

I see a trainer along the path I'm taking. He's standing still and seems nice, but I'm not in the mood to make friends. No, I try to walk past him...

But then he challenges me to a Pokemon battle! Child, I don't have time for this! Oh well, better to just take my anger out on him. Oh look, Youngster Calvin has a Poochyena as well. Looks like that's the only Pokemon I'll be seeing this entire playthrough. Poochy easily defeats his Poochyena, and I leave the kid behind.

I see a shortcut I can take to avoid this next trainer, but some extra practice with Tricca can't hurt. Tricca makes quick work of his two level 4 Wurmples. I want a Wurmple :'( Anything other than a Poochyena, really.

After beating a couple more trainers, I finally arrive in Petalburg City. Time to go visit my dad at the gym!

While talking to my dad, some kid barges in, insisting that he catches a Pokemon for the first time. Like, who do you think you are? We're trying to have a father-son talk and you interrupt us? Anyways, this kids name is Wally, and my dad told me to help him catch a Pokemon.

We head out to Route 102, and Wally heads into the tall grass. Looks like its time for him to catch a Poochyena or a Zigzagoon or whatever.

What! A wild Ralts appeared!?!? Every single Route I have gone to, the first Pokemon that appeared was a Poochyena. Now this kid that doesn't even know how to catch a Pokemon, has a Ralts appear on his first encounter? It has a 4% chance of appearing! Wally catches the Ralts and we head back to the gym. He thanks my dad, and leaves.

If I ever see Wally again...

My dad suggests that I head to Rustboro City to challenge the gym there. After saying good bye to him and exiting the gym, I head out to ---

--- A random man with sunglasses suddenly approaches me! He says something about looking for talented trainers. He apologizes for taking my time and then leaves. Am I not talented? Talk about being rude.

After that random encounter, I head out to Route 104. Before stepping into the grass for my first encounter, I look at the appearance rates of each Pokemon. Marill 20%, Wurmple 20%, Taillow and Wingull at 10%, and then Poochyena, at 40%. Will it be another Poochyena? Let's see...

I'm just gonna end this post -.-

PART 1 - THE BEGINNING

Hey guys! For my very first attempt at blogging, I am going to walk you through my very first Pokemon Nuzlocke Challenge on Pokemon Emerald. For those that don't know, a Nuzlocke Challenge is basically a set of rules self imposed by the player to make a Pokemon game more challenging. In this walkthrough, I will be playing with the basic rules: 1. any Pokemon that faints is considered dead and must be released 2. the player may only catch the first Pokemon found in each area 3. the player must nickname all their Pokemon, forming a strong emotional bond 4. a blackout is considered to be game over. It will probably be a long journey (I hope!), so let us begin...

PART 1 - THE BEGINNING

Pokemon Emerald was actually the very first Pokemon game that I played, so the intro and Prof. Birch talking about the world of Pokemon gives me nostalgia. Am I a boy or a girl? One of the hardest decisions to make...

I decided to name my trainer Green, simply because I am playing Emerald. (and because I don't want to reveal my identity, yet.)

Ahhh yes. Now I remember. It all started inside the moving truck. I'm inside my new house in Littleroot, and I see two Vigoroth 'helping' us move in. Mom tells me to fix the clock, because that's the first thing you do when you move to a new home. After I fix my clock, I get the potion hiding in my PC, cause the last thing I want to happen is my Pokemon to die. Time to meet May!

OMG. May's stuttering, she likes me!

Time to save her dad from a low leveled Zigzagoon...

I will let my trainer number determine my starter Pokemon for this challenge. Since the last number of my trainer ID is 2, I have to choose the grass type. Treecko it is!

What! A female Treecko! Well this is interesting... (I should have you know that I only catch and raise male Pokemon, cause a blue icon beside their name seems cooler.)

So I beat the Zigzagoon with ease, Prof. thanks me and gives me Treecko as a gift! I nickname her (I accidentally put 'him' before noticing the mistake) Tricca. Isn't it a nice name for a female Treecko?

Time to go battle May up north.

Ugghh... walking without running shoes is a pain. I stop by Oldale Town, get a free potion. Yay.

Battled a Wingull that abused Growl. -.-

Leveled up. :) Tricca learns Absorb.

Battling May right now... If I die, this would be embarrassing.

I lie. I beat Torchic with ease, and I level up again. We head back to the lab, jumping down ledges as we do so. May gives me Poke Balls so that I can catch my first Pokemon! But the question is, What will my first catch be? But first my mom gives me running shoes. "Press B to run". I know.

I walk into the patch of grass on Route 101. The Pokemon that appears is...

Poochyena! Yes! Not a Zigzagoon! But still, Pick Up would have helped. I'm not complaining though, as I never raised a Mightyena in the past. I catch the Poochyena on my first try, and I nickname her (Yes, I caught another female) Poochy. Don't worry, I'll become more creative when naming my Pokemon!

And so my adventure begins. With Tricca and Poochy by my side, one could only imagine the fun times and hardship that await us.

TO BE CONTINUED...
